The importance of physical health
In a 2016 study, scientists Rafael Pereira, Maria Wilwert, and Emilio Takase, analyze whether physical health impacts a players’ performance. In their study, they created a routine for a team of competitive gamers, including “waking up, performing a physical activity or exercising, free time, time for lunch, mental activation period, [game] training, time for dinner, night training, more free time, and a minimum of eight hours for sleep”. After completing these activities, the scientists wanted to see whether they had an effect on the team’s performance. As a result, the player “who followed the activities with greater rigor…showed a substantial improvement in all of his cognitive skills”, with the other players in the team also finding improvements. Because the routine was beneficial for the players, it’s important for competitive gamers not to disregard their health.
